Tanzania is a country of law and order and has the lowest crime rate in Africa. It has instituted favourable laws to suit the needs of investors and has signed several international treaties to enhance investment protection.

The Companies Ordinance, Cap. 212 became effective on 1st October, 1932. Since then it has undergone several ammendments todate.

BILATERAL TREATIES

Tanzania has signed Bilateral treaties for the promotion and protection of foreign direct investment with:

Germany, signed on 30 January, 1965 and came into force on 12 July, 1968.

Netherlands, signed on 14 April, 1970 and came into force on 28 June, 1972;

Switzerland, signed on 3 May, 1965 and came into force on 16 September, 1965.

United Kingdom, signed on 7 January, 1994 but did not come into force.
