The National Development Corporation is currently working on the following projects: 1. The Mchuchuma Colliery Project - this is a surface coal mining project to supply a nearby coal-fired Thermal Power Station; 2. The Mchuchuma Thermal Power Project - this is a 400 MW coal-fired power plant located close to the Colliery; 3. The Liganga Iron Ore, Vanadium and Titanium Project - this is a mining cum basic metal processing; 4. The Kilimanjaro Industrial Park Project - this is an Industrial Park dedicated for agro, food processing and manufacturing; 5. The Lake Natron Soda Ash Project - this is a surface extraction cum chemical processing of soda crust bordering the Lake. 6. The Mtwara Development Corridor - This is a Spatial Development Initiative (SDI) which has the backing of the 4 countries directly affected namely Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique. The first three projects are currently being promoted by NDC for immediate implementation to open up the Mtwara Development Corridor, a Spatial Development Initiative (SDI) built on a "spine" of phyisical transport infrastructure linking the southern regions of Tanzania to neighbouring Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and to the deep, natural sea port of Mtwara, as the gateway to international markets. Priority infrastructural projects within the Mtwara Corridor include modernisation and expansion of Mtwara Sea Port, Mtwara Airport and the construction of roads and railways, as BOT, BOOT Projects or built on long term private concessions. The techno-economic studies conducted have established that there exists adequate reserves of coal to justify commercial exploitation. The studies also established technical feasibility and economic viability for the establishment of Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 400MW. A fresh pre-feasibility and feasibility studies on the Liganga Iron Ore, Vanadium and Titanium are being prepared to update earlier studies conducted some years ago, which had established huge reserves of the basic metals. Also under preparation is a Feasibility Study on the Kilimanjaro Industrial Park and plans for updating the Lake Natron Soda Ash Feasibility study.
